Verafin Donates $325,000 to COVID-19 Response Fund
The Health Care Foundation has launched a COVID-19 Response Fund to help hospitals under the purview of Eastern Health respond to the COVID-19 pandemic here at home.
100% of donations to this fund will help our hospitals purchase items related to Coronavirus-related care as they emerge, such as additional ICU beds, mental health supports, or frontline staff support.
To date, individuals have donated between $5 and $5,000, while community-minded organizations have made significant donations, such as Northpoint Foundation’s $100,000 contribution.
Last week, local tech giant Verafin made a $325,000 donation to the COVID-19 Response Fund.
“At Verafin, we feel it’s important to support the communities where we live and work,” says Verafin Co-founder, Brendan Brothers. “Donations to support the Health Care Foundation came from Verafin and individual contributions from our employees.”

Verafin initially committed to a $100,000 donation. When they told their employees that the company would match any contributions from their staff, the sum total of Verafin’s donation rose to $325,000.
“We continue to look forward to ways we can use our financial and intellectual capital to help in this fight,” Brothers added.
“Our lives have changed, but our community spirit remains strong as always in Newfoundland & Labrador,” says Health Care Foundation President & CEO Paul Snow. “Whenever our hospitals have a need, The Health Care Foundation raises funds to meet those needs, and we couldn’t do it without the continued support of our generous donors. If you feel you’re in a position to make a donation, 100% of your donation will help your hospitals get us through this pandemic.”
