Emergency Department – The Need

Your Health Science Centre Emergency Department is asking you to support the longstanding cornerstone of healthcare for all citizens on the Avalon Peninsula, the entire province of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Saint-Pierre and Miquelon.

Teams of physicians, nurses and support staff have provided uninterrupted service to the public for over 40 years. Blizzards, hurricanes, mass power outages, and most recently the COVID-19 pandemic have not deterred our team from providing tertiary emergency care services to patients and families in their time of need.

Emergency Care can be fast-paced and filled with trauma codes, however, so much work goes unseen and unrecognized in the background. Every day, the Emergency Department provides supportive care to patients in all stages and walks of life, including end of life care of palliative cancer patients, care and support for sexual assault victims or miscarrying mothers, assisting patients suffering from a mental health crisis, providing safety, care and support for dementia patients. Often, these patients have nowhere else to turn, or no one to assist in their time of need.

Your Health Science Centre Emergency Department provides vital services to all patients seeking care.
