1 in 3 people living in Newfoundland and Labrador will need cardiac care in their lifetime. Help us ensure they get the best care possible.
Cardiac disease can impact anyone. It can creep up on you or be a sudden life or death emergency. You can be affected in your youth or have a cardiac emergency cause a big detour in your life plans. Because anyone can be impacted, it’s important to have confidence in the care you receive during your time of need. This is where we come in!
Having the highest quality cardiac services is crucial, and technology is always advancing. Your donations help improve the care of patients and equip our health care professionals with the tools they need to save lives.
As Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, we often find ourselves traveling to town for important appointments. With Cardiac Care, needs are often unexpected and immediate; every second matters. When these needs arise, residents should have equal and timely access to the best cardiac care, regardless of where they call home. At present, many cardiac patients are required to travel to St. John’s for consultation and diagnosis, where they may have extended stays away from home.
You can help us change that.
With your support, the Heart Team can extend its reach to wherever you are. They can provide access to cardiac diagnostics for everyone in the province with “Virtual-First Cardiac Care“. We can use technology to enable remote cardiac consultations, allowing Cardiologists, Cardiac Surgeons and the Heart Team to instantly “see” patients in emergent or critical care settings anywhere in the province, or even at home.
We can use new technology to listen to your heart beating and assess its function remotely. This can provide rapid access to cardiac care people receive when they are physically at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s. This will help patients get a diagnosis faster and in some cases may remove the unnecessary burden of travel to the city.
Your donation will put kits of specialized cardiac technology and equipment in seven hospitals across Newfoundland and Labrador. This technology connects to a virtual cardiac centre based in St. John’s where the Heart Team will be available virtually, in real-time. This new equipment can provide crucial information about your heart from a distance to help the Heart Team decide on the next steps.
We want you to feel comfortable with your heart in our hands. Please help the Health Care Foundation support cardiac patients here at home. Your donation will help keep our Cardiac Care Program on the cutting edge, which will help save lives.
With your help, we can extend our reach for cardiac care beyond the overpass.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sean Connors
