Newfoundland Power Employees Donate $100,000 to Support Cancer Care for Patients and Families in Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland Power President and CEO, Gary Murray, along with their employees, today announced a $100,000 donation to improve the Family and Patient Rooms on Unit 4 North A of the Health Sciences Centre in Newfoundland and Labrador.

This donation will support cancer patients and their families in the province. This gift will assist the Health Care Foundation to provide renovations and upgrades to Family and Patient Rooms on Unit 4 North A of the Health Sciences Centre to help patients and their families while undergoing acute care during hospitalization for cancer treatment.

“Newfoundland Power’s support of the Health Care Foundation is truly improving hospitals and health centres, right here at home,” says Health Care Foundation President and CEO Paul Snow. “Unit 4 North A provides cancer care to patients who require a close and attentive level of care. Patients can stay in this unit for as long as required, with their families spending time right there beside them. Our complete renovation of 4 North A will give patients and their loved ones a more comfortable setting for their cancer journey.”

“Our employees’ dedication to cancer care is making a difference in the lives of others,” says Gary Murray, President and CEO, Newfoundland Power. “From the very beginning, the focus of our corporate charity, Power of Life, has been to help make the cancer journey for cancer patients and their families a little easier. Knowing our gift will be used to transform the family room and patient rooms at 4 North A to provide comfort when its needed most is very meaningful.”

Research shows that one in two people in Newfoundland and Labrador will experience a cancer diagnosis at some point throughout their lives.  Those who face cancer deserve to be treated at state-of-the-art facilities where they can focus on health, hope and getting better.
