Improving Your Hospitals with Your Donations
Medical equipment and procedures are constantly evolving and advancing. By supporting the Health Care Foundation, you ensure your doctors and nurses have the latest tools, technology, and training they need to do a better job of getting you better. The Health Care Foundation supports nine adult hospitals and health centres under the purview of Eastern Health. Our hospitals provide tertiary care for all of Newfoundland and Labrador, and residents of St. Pierre and Miquelon. If you have been a patient or visitor in any of Eastern Health's adult hospitals or health centres, chances are you have used advanced medical technology, a hospital bed, piece of equipment or program the Health Care Foundation supports. Each year, we transfer millions of dollars to our healthcare facilities, purchasing everything from 3 T MRI machines to Broda Chairs. No purchase is too big or small. We fund the equipment and projects that make our patients and the people who care for them safer, more efficient, and more comfortable.
Improving Your Health Care Experience
We are improving what it feels like to be a patient in our health care system. We are achieving this by transforming your hospitals and health centres into more dignified, comfortable, and vibrant spaces of healing for patients and their families. We fund items not traditionally covered by hospital and health centre budgets, and allow staff to identify opportunities to improve the way their patients experience healthcare. Since 2012, our Peaceful Ports program has invested $1,185,737 to transform 16 hospital spaces into quiet, comfortable areas for patients and their families to reflect and regroup in a home-like environment. We are redeveloping an additional 113 hospital spaces, at an estimated cost of $5,650,000. We have committed $1,000,000 to making our hospitals more visitor friendly through wayfinding, and $485,000 for nursing respite. Another way the Health Care Foundation improves your experience is by working directly with your healthcare providers through our Comfort in Care Grants program. Each year, we fund $60,000 of items identified to make the patient experience more comfortable. In 2020-2021, we approved 62 grants for comfort items like Broda chairs, outdoor therapeutic activities for mental health residents, sleeper chairs, iPads and more. Comfort in Care items are funded on the basis of encourage recreational, communications, entertainment and skill development. Since its inception in 2007, the Comfort in Care program has funded $964,761 in patient improvement items and programs.

We raise funds for everything from birthing suites to long term care facilities. Your support helps us keep every unit in your hospitals at the forefront of their fields. We are the foundation that fundraises for all adult healthcare programs, so everyone you care about is cared for. The Health Care Foundation is committed to supporting priority areas of care under the Health Accord for Newfoundland and Labrador (a 10-year health transformation). Newfoundland and Labrador have an aging population, spread over our vast geography. We are committed to being part of the solution and supporting innovation to deliver the best tertiary and specialized care for all.
