Learn how the Health Care Foundation improves NL healthcare with donor support, funding technology, recruiting physicians, and enhancing patient comfort.

  1. Your Heart Doesn’t Understand Wait Times

Heart disease impacts 1 in 3 people in Newfoundland and Labrador. This places a significant demand for services. The growing need for cardiac services is leading to longer wait times, which can impact patient well-being. The Health Care Foundation is stepping in to help and make a difference. In 2022 alone, our incredible donors enabled us to contribute $2,090,000 towards Cardiac Catheterization Labs, including the development of a new Cath Lab. Donors are the heroes here. They make it possible for us to step in when greater resources are required. For 20 years, the Health Care Foundation has united our community to bridge the gap in healthcare. The Health Care Foundation matters now more than ever!

  2. We Have Championed Health Care for 20+ Years

2022 marked the Health Care Foundation’s 20th anniversary. In those 20 plus years the Health Care Foundation has raised over $100 million to improve health care across Newfoundland and Labrador. By funding adult health care facilities we have been part of the lives of nearly every man and woman in our province, and we are committed to continuing to provide health care solutions for our community.

  3. Advanced Medical Technology isn’t Cheap

The investments made by the Health Care Foundation in state-of-the-art medical technologies are revolutionary. We invested $3,335,843 on healthcare advancements in 2022–2023 alone, including $2,761,090 in necessary equipment. For example, since 2018, our 3T MRI has completed over 30,000 diagnostic scans, revolutionizing patient safety and diagnostic accuracy.Attracting and Retaining top quality medical professionals to support our initiatives is critical.  We have recently recruited 25 physicians to work throughout NL  in both specialty areas and Family Practice.

  4. Mental Health Care Support is Critical to Our Future

Mental health is as important as physical health. The Health Care Foundation supports the new Adult Mental Health and Addictions Facility and various mental health programs. From the Moving Lives Forward Scholarship Program to the –(RBC) First Responder Psychological Safety Collaborative, we are making mental health support more accessible.

  5. We Care About Patient Comfort

Hospitals are not often mistaken for resorts, but the Health Care Foundation is working to make hospitals more comfortable.  “Peaceful Ports™” and “Comfort in Care™” are two ways that the Health Care Foundation has improved the hospital experience for patients, staff, and their supporters. The “Peaceful Ports” program decreases anxiety and stress by creating  soothing spaces while our “Comfort in Care” program supports the purchase of essential comfort items. In 2022-2023, we awarded 82 grants through Comfort in Care™, funding items that significantly improve the patient experience.
