We Can’t Change the Story,
But We Can Change the Setting
The inpatient oncology and medicine unit, better known as 4 North A (4NA) in the Health Sciences Centre, provides care to patients from all over Newfoundland and Labrador who have been diagnosed with cancer and are undergoing treatment.
4NA has 35 beds. Most often, each bed has a patient in it. When you walk through 4 North A, you notice that most patient room doors are closed. What you don’t see is the cancer journey that patients from every part of the province are going through behind each door.
In some rooms, there is a patient who has been admitted for investigation, desperately hoping not to receive the dreaded cancer diagnosis. Behind another door is a parent, grandparent, sibling or loved one fighting for their life. Behind another door is a person who is losing their battle. Each room represents a journey.
We want to provide the patients of 4NA and their families with the support and comfort they need and deserve in these difficult times.
Each staff member working on 4NA is fully committed to improving the lives of our patients, at all stages of their cancer journey. We celebrate every cancer win, both big and small. 4NA staff and the Health Care Foundation want to see every patient need met. We provide calming waiting areas and comfort items like blanket warmers and sleeper chairs. Because of these spaces, the staff of 4NA are able to create lasting memories like birthday parties and weddings for children and grandchildren of our patients.
At some point in our lives, you or a loved one will likely have to rely on our health care system. And you deserve the best. Quality care is about having the best equipment and health care team. It also means providing a supportive environment that promotes healing for patients and their loved ones. Your donations are very powerful. Together, we can fulfill the comfort needs of our patients who are living with cancer. You can make a difference in the lives of our patients. Every dollar helps.
Please give today.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
