Moving forward can mean something different for everyone. For someone connected to a mental health and addictions program, it might mean returning to school. Learning a new skill. Discovering a talent. Building confidence. Finding meaningful employment. Or simply taking an important next step. Through Moving Lives Forward, the Health Care Foundation helps provide those opportunities. The program supports eligible Newfoundland and Labrador residents aged 17 and older who are connected to a mental health and addictions program and want to pursue education, training or skill development. Because sometimes, the opportunity to move forward starts with someone believing you can.
The cost of education or training can stand between someone and an opportunity that could make a meaningful difference in their life.
Donor support helps remove that barrier.
Moving Lives Forward can help individuals pursue opportunities that support personal development, build skills, strengthen independence and open new possibilities for the future.
And the impact can extend well beyond the course itself.
Your Gift Gives Opportunity.
Your Gift Gives Confidence.
Your Gift Gives Possibility.
For Moving Lives Forward recipient Brad Whitten, that opportunity was pottery. Brad discovered art as a way to focus his mind and manage the challenges he faced in his daily life. Through Open Windows Studio, he learned about Moving Lives Forward and received support to pursue his passion for pottery.
“When I received my first grant, I was elated and even proud, because somebody, somewhere, believed in me.”
With support from the program, Brad was able to develop his skills at the Clay Studio in St. John’s. Along the way, he found something more: a community where he felt welcomed and a new sense of possibility. That opportunity eventually led to a temporary position at the Clay Studio. Today, Brad sells his own artwork and continues to volunteer with the studio. One opportunity helped move a life forward. That’s what donor support can make possible.
The Moving Lives Forward Scholarship Program is proudly supported by NAPE, helping create opportunities for people across Newfoundland and Labrador to learn, grow and take meaningful steps toward their future.
