A DIAGNOSIS MICHAEL NEVER EXPECTED. A SECOND CHANCE HIS FAMILY WILL NEVER FORGET.
In a matter of months, Michael and his wife, Jennifer, went from living their everyday lives to facing a diagnosis they never saw coming and preparing for major heart surgery.
Michael's Story

At 50 years old, Michael Coady had no idea he had been living his entire life with a congenital heart defect.

Then, in August 2025, an incidental medical finding changed everything.

Doctors discovered a previously undetected defect in Michael’s heart, one serious enough to require complex open-heart surgery.

In a matter of months, Michael and his wife, Jennifer, went from living their everyday lives to facing a diagnosis they never saw coming and preparing for major heart surgery.

It was frightening. It was overwhelming. And it required an incredible amount of trust.

In late November 2025, Michael and Jennifer placed that trust in the cardiac surgical team at the Health Sciences Centre.

Michael underwent successful open-heart surgery to repair the defect.

For Jennifer and their family, knowing Michael was in the hands of a highly skilled and compassionate cardiac team provided reassurance during some of their most difficult moments.

And when the surgery was over, Michael’s journey was far from finished.

He required specialized care in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), surrounded by health care professionals who supported him through the critical first stages of recovery. His care continues today through the Heart Failure Clinic and Cardiac Rehabilitation Program as he works to regain his strength and move forward.

For the Coady family, the experience has left them with a profound sense of gratitude.

“Our family will be forever grateful for the prompt, compassionate and thorough care Michael received. When we needed them most, they were there for us.”

Michael’s journey is more than the story of a successful surgery. It is the story of an entire continuum of care, from an unexpected diagnosis through a complex procedure and intensive care to rehabilitation and recovery.

Most importantly, it is the story of a husband, a family and a future made possible by exceptional health care.

Our family will be forever grateful for the prompt, compassionate and thorough care Michael received. When we needed them most, they were there for us.
