About Ed Roche

If you live in Newfoundland, or have visited its rocky domain, the paintings of Ed Roche feel instantly familiar. Ed captures the island’s rugged landscape, homey architecture, and fetching shorelines with such clarity, affection and rich nuance that the viewer often feels that they are looking through a window, rather than at a canvas. Ed is a master of composition and colour, and knows exactly how to apply paint to achieve effect. The real success in his engaging realism is his ability to capture the simple essence of a scene. Each brush stroke and dab of paint is infused with a genuine, caring, even passion for the rendered scene. He has been everywhere from Cape Bonavista to Tuscany, and finds inspiration in the shorelines, cityscapes and all the island’s nooks and crannies. Ed shares his experiences through his artwork.

Ed Roche was born in Middle Cove, and has lived in St. John’s for most of his life. His paintings have been featured in galleries throughout Canada and Europe.

Ed is a great supporter of the Health Care Foundation. His work is displayed in different Peaceful Ports, and he is proud to partner to raise funds to support local Mental Health initiatives.
